Risks, dangers and precautions

When placed correctly, dental veneers pose no danger. Complications occur in less than 2% of cases and are almost always linked to poor indication or an unqualified practitioner. Here is what you need to know.

1. Tooth filing: irreversible with classic veneers

Classic veneers require 0.5 to 1 mm of enamel removal. This is irreversible — once filed, the tooth will always need a prosthesis. That is why we favour No-Prep (no filing) whenever possible: 80% of patients are eligible.

2. Debonding: predictable and repairable

About 1 to 3 veneers per 100 may debond within the first 5 years. That is why we offer a written 10-year warranty: any debonding is re-bonded free of charge for life. Main cause: night bruxism (teeth grinding) — we provide a protective nightguard to all at-risk patients.

3. Post-placement sensitivity: brief and normal

Hot/cold sensitivity is common for 2 to 4 weeks after placement while the pulp adapts. It always subsides spontaneously. If it persists beyond 2 months, consult us.

4. Contraindications

  • Active periodontal disease (gingivitis, periodontitis) — must be treated first
  • Active cavities — treatment required first
  • Severe uncontrolled bruxism
  • Highly unbalanced occlusion — orthodontics recommended first

Lifespan and care

With proper care, an E-Max veneer lasts on average 15 to 20 years. Our tips to maximise lifespan:

  • Brushing twice daily with soft brush and non-abrasive toothpaste
  • Daily flossing to prevent gingivitis
  • Professional scaling every 6 months
  • Avoid biting seeds, ice cubes, pens
  • Nightguard if bruxism
  • Annual check-up (possible remotely via photos)

Frequently asked questions about dental veneers

What is an E-Max dental veneer? +
An E-Max dental veneer is a thin ceramic shell made of IPS e.max® (Ivoclar Vivadent, Switzerland), 0.3 to 0.5 mm thick, bonded to the visible surface of teeth to correct their shape, colour or alignment. It is today the most resistant (400 MPa) and aesthetic ceramic on the market.
Why get dental veneers in Tunisia? +
Tunisia offers E-Max veneers up to 70% cheaper than the UK, with the exact same materials (IPS e.max® CE certified) and European-trained dentists. A pack of 10 veneers costs around €2,100 in Tunisia versus £7,000 to £10,000 in the UK.
Are dental veneers dangerous? +
When placed correctly, veneers are not dangerous. The main risk is irreversible tooth filing — which is why we prefer the No-Prep technique that preserves 100% of natural enamel. Problematic cases usually come from veneers that are too thick, poorly fitted, or bonded to unprepared teeth (inflamed gums, cavities).
How long do dental veneers last? +
E-Max veneers last on average 15 to 20 years with proper care. We offer a written 10-year contractual warranty. Composite veneers last 5 to 8 years.
Do you have to file your teeth for veneers? +
No. With the No-Prep technique, ultra-thin veneers (0.3 mm) are bonded directly onto enamel without any filing. This technique is reversible, painless, and preserves the integrity of your natural teeth.
How much do dental veneers cost in Tunisia? +
Prices start at €210 per E-Max veneer. A complete Hollywood Smile (10 veneers + whitening) costs 2100 € all-inclusive. See our detailed pricing page.
How long does the trip last for veneer placement? +
A Hollywood Smile trip takes 5 to 7 days: D1 consultation + digital impressions, D3-D4 mock-up try-on (test before bonding), D6-D7 final placement. You leave with your complete smile.
Are veneers noticeable? +
No, a well-made veneer is undetectable. The translucency of e.max® perfectly mimics natural enamel. Each veneer is personalised to match your skin tone, age, and facial shape.
